Director Greetings

It is with great enthusiasm and a deep sense of privilege that I address you in my role as Director of this extraordinary cultural institution.

Founded in 2012 at the behest of the former Roman Province of the Capuchin Friars Minor and now belonging to the Capuchin Seraphic Province Immaculate Conception OFM, our Museum represents an authentic treasure chest of art, spirituality and historical memory for the city of Rome and for the whole Order. Here, within an evocative convent architectural complex built in 1626, are collected precious works of art, sacred furnishings and artifacts that testify to the devotion and profound heritage of the Capuchins.

Among the wonders of our heritage, the Crypt is undoubtedly the most famous and engaging place. Entirely decorated with bones, this fascinating place reminds us of the transience of human existence and the indissoluble link between life and death, central themes in the spirituality and reflection of the Capuchin friars. Crossing its threshold, you will be deeply impressed by the beauty and intensity of this sacred space.

The Museum preserves many other precious treasures, such as Caravaggio’s Saint Francis in Meditation , a work that testifies to the special attention the painter devoted to the figure of the saint of Assisi and to the Capuchin world. It also houses a rich collection of material evidence related to the history and spirituality of the Order, as well as to the saintly figures who glorified its path.

It is with great pride, therefore, that I invite you to step through the doors of this extraordinary museum to immerse yourself in a unique experience of beauty, knowledge and spirituality.

Enjoy your visit!
