Special exhibition at the Capuchin Museum and Crypt: Crocetti’s Passion Cross
On the occasion of the liturgical feast of St. Francis of Assisi and the eighth centenary of the impression of the saint’s stigmata, the Capuchin Museum and Crypt in Rome presents the extraordinary exhibition of the work The Cross of the Passion, created in 1954 by sculptor Venanzo Crocetti.
The event marks a significant milestone for the museum, which, for the first time since its inception, opens its halls to a work not in its own collection.
The exhibition, titled Supported the Passion of the Cross, will open on Oct. 4, 2024 at 10 a.m.
The bronze bas-relief will be displayed in the room dedicated to the famous painting Saint Francis in Meditation, in a context capable of creating a profound dialogue between Capuchin spirituality, Caravaggio’s artistic realism and Crocetti’s powerful expressiveness.
Pietro Costantini, newly appointed director of the Capuchin Museum and Crypt, said, “We are extremely honored to be able to host Venanzo Crocetti’s work within our exhibition halls. This important loan, made possible thanks to the valuable collaboration with the Venanzo Crocetti Foundation, allows us to enrich, albeit temporarily, our museum itinerary, offering visitors a unique experience of reflection on universal themes such as suffering and redemption. We express our sincere gratitude to the Foundation for its generous loan and crucial organizational support.” The opening ceremony will be attended by: –
Pietro Costantini, Director Museum and Crypt of the Capuchins –
Carla Ortolani, President Venanzo Crocetti Foundation – Raffaella Morselli, Sapienza University of Rome – Cecilia Paolini, University of Teramo The exhibition, open to the public until Oct. 10, 2024, is an unmissable opportunity to reflect on deeply intertwined themes between Capuchin spirituality, the work of Caravaggio and that of Crocetti, in an artistic dialogue that explores the tension between the divine and the human, through the use of light and matter.
The opening will be held at the Museum and Crypt, with free admission .
